Bama Rolls Past Murray State 5-1, Hands Racers First Loss of the Year

On Friday afternoon, the Crimson Tide went up against the red-hot Murray State Racers who came into this game 8-0 on the year. Averaging over thirteen runs a game, the Tide was going to need a strong performance from junior pitcher Garrett McMillan.

McMillan pitched one heck of a game, only giving up three hits in six shutout innings along with seven strikeouts. Freshman Dylan Ray came into the game hoping to continue Bama’s dominance in the seventh inning and ended up throwing seven strikeouts of his own.

The Tide never trailed in this game and opened the scoring with Owen Diodati’s RBI base hit into the right field gap in the second inning. After a few errors by the Racers the Tide was able to tack on a few more runs. It wasn’t until the sixth inning where senior standout Tommy Seidl sent one deep into the Law School parking lot to extend Bama’s lead to four. Seidl is currently batting .485 and the Tide will need him to continue to hit well throughout the weekend series.

Sophomore Andrew Pinckney had himself a game as well, going three for four with a standup triple in the sixth inning.

The Tide improved to 7-4 on the season with its win, while Murray State fell to 8-1. McMillan earned himself his first win of the season (1-0) while Racer’s pitcher Hayden Wynja fell to (0-1). The Tide will need the bats to continue tomorrow as they enter their second game of a weekend series against the Murray State Racers.

Murray State is currently sixth in the nation in runs per game, averaging almost 13 every time they play. Alabama will look for another strong pitching performance, this time coming from junior Antoine Jean. Jean last pitched against No.1 Texas where he recorded 5.0 innings pitched and gave up 2 runs.

Game 2 of the weekend series will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The game will also be televised and streaming on SEC Network+.
