Award Winning News Anchor and Alabama Native Passes Away
Sad news as many in Alabama are mourning the loss of a young talented life.
According to USA Today, 39 year old news anchor Chauncy Glover has passed away. At the time of writing, there was no cause of death revealed.
Glover was an Athens, Alabama native and worked for news stations in Detroit, Jacksonville, Houston and most recently Los Angeles. According to USA Today, Glover earned three Emmys over the course of his career, including for a 2017 story on Hurricane Harvey, where he rescued a woman in labor and later helped deliver her baby, according to his biography.
Glover founded The Chauncy Glover Project which is an extensive, hands-on mentoring program, created to groom inner-city teenage boys into upstanding and accomplished gentlemen. According to the website, The Chauncy Glover Project is a culturally specific intervention for Black and Latino male youth focuses on education, manhood, and self-empowerment.
According to USA Today, Glover's colleagues at KCAL shared this statement on air following his passing.
"We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy's beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. He was more than a son and brother - he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community," the statement read. "Chauncy's compassion and dedication to helping others, especially through the Chauncy Glover Project, changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams. His talent, warmth, and vision left an imprint on everyone who knew him, and the world is dimmer without him."
