The Aliceville Yellowjackets (10-1, 6-0) entered round one of the Class 2A AHSAA as top four seed. The Yellowjackets left no doubt about their status as favorites as they send West End Walnut Grove packing 62-13 to advance into round two of the playoffs.

The Patriots ensured the game started competitively as they marched down and scored a touchdown on their first drive. Senior quarterback Tyler Jones found senior Thad Pearce on a 23-yard completion for a touchdown on 3rd-and-long to get West End Walnut Grove on the board first.

The Patriots didn't hold the lead long as the Yellowjackets onslaught began. Two big passes from senior quarterback TyJarian Williams set up JayChristian Thomas for a one-yard touchdown run.

Aliceville's offense continued to take advantage of its weapons and scored three second quarter touchdowns on big plays. Junior KeAnthony found the endzone on a 45-yard rush, Williams found Jatavious Colvin for a 31-yard touchdown and then again to Shawnderrick Kirkland from 20-yards away.

"I think the ball game was pretty awesome in our favor. Our offensive coordinator had a great game plan and the guys stuck with it and believed in it. Defensive coordinator came in and had a relentless, very detailed gameplan as well. That's coach Montez Shipman the offensive coordinator and coach Jaquel Fells our defensive coordinator and the guys just really bought in and just believed that they were going to come out here and take care of business tonight and they did," said Aliceville head coach Grady Griffin.

The sides went for halftime but nothing changed on the field as the Aliceville Yellowjackets poured it on in the second half. The Class 2A Region 5 champions defended home field, only allowing 161 yards of total offense and scoring 56 unanswered points to cruise through the first round of the playoffs.

The Aliceville offense couldn't be stopped on Friday night as they scored touchdowns on four consecutive drives after the halftime break. 13-yard Kirkland touchdown run, 19-yard Colvin touchdown reception, 38-yard Jaboree Jones touchdown run and 22-yard Kelby Taylor touchdown reception put the exclamation points on each Aliceville possession.

Williams finished his evening 15-of-19 for 263 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 56 yards. He was helped on the ground by a number of rushers. 12 Aliceville ball-carriers combined for 404 yards and five scores.

"First of all, we respect West End, they have a great program. Those guys put up seven wins and only three losses so we knew they were a good team coming in," said Griffin. "We just try to keep a laser like focus and try to block out all the distractions and try to stay out of the media. We saw that we were the favorites, we knew it but we didn't want to stand on believe we'll coming in and take a win without earning it or deserving it."

The Yellowjackets were just too much for the Patriots as they amassed 667 total yards and moved the ball both on the ground or in the air in front of a hungry round one crowd.

Aliceville now has Falkville (7-4, 4-2) coming to town for round two. The Blue Devils finished second in Region 8 and dominated Collinsville 42-7 in round one.

"The point of emphasis for round two for my team and I? Just staying focused on the task. Everything is 1-0. We don't look down the schedule and say, 'Hey we might have these guys, we might not'. We just try to focus on whoever so if it's Falkville we'll be focused in and locked in on Falkville and give them everything we've got," said Griffin.
