Last March of 2019, Nate Oats was hired as the new basketball coach of the Crimson Tide. He spent his first summer re-recruiting several Alabama players back onto his initial roster and finished his first season with a record of 16-15, finishing ninth in the conference.

Oats reeled in the No. 12 recruiting class for his first full recruiting cycle, bringing in four, 4-star recruits and two 3-star players along with a prized graduate transfer in Jordan Bruner and highly rated Josh Primo.

Prior to the tip-off of the 2020 season, Oats is picking up right where he left off on the recruiting trail.  The second year coach already has the commitment of top basketball recruit in the state, 5-star JD Davidson.

Davidson, from Letohatchee, Alabama, is already recruiting for the Crimson Tide.

6-foot-11, 215 pound center, Charles Bediako is a 5-star recruit, playing basketball at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Three of 247's analysts have predicted Bediako will commit to the Crimson Tide. The 247Sports Composite ranks him the No. 5 center in the upcoming 2021 class.

Oats also has 4-star small forward, Jusaun Holt committed out of Roswell, Georgia. Holt is the No. 8 ranked player in the state of Georgia in this cycle.

The expectation has been raised around The Capstone thanks to Oats and his excellent assistants Bryan Hodgson, Antoine Pettway and Charlie Henry. The four coaches are well on their way to topping the 2020 recruiting class with the 2021 class if it can land Bediako's commitment.
