Alabama junior receiver John Metchie III left the 2021 SEC Championship Game near the end of the first half. Metchie was down on the turf before being helped off the field by Crimson Tide trainers. He did not return to the game.

"John Metchie is probably going to be out now," said Alabama head coach Nick Saban in the post game press conference.

Metchie was having himself quite a game prior to the injury, he had hauled in six receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown on eight targets.

According to Mark Schlabach of ESPN, Alabama officials believe that Metchie has torn his ACL and will be lost for the remainder of the season.

The Canadian receiver was Bryce Young's favorite target this season as he's hauled in 98 receptions for 1,142 yards and eight scores this season.

Other receivers will have to step up in Metchie's absence with the College Football Playoff Semifinals on the horizon. Redshirt junior Slade Bolden will surely see more action along with freshman Ja'Corey Brooks and sophomore Traeshon Holden.

Each receiver made contributions in the second half, Bolden caught three passes for 33, Holden pulled in two receptions for 21 yards and Brooks hauled in one catch for nine yards after Metchie left with his injury.

The Crimson Tide will find out its semifinal destination on Sunday, December 5.
