Alabama Reports Highest Daily Confirmed COVID-19 Death Count to Date
The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 40 deaths as a result of COVID-19 yesterday, the highest daily total since the agency began reporting virus data in March.
The 40 COVID-19 deaths yesterday mark the highest daily death count since March. The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed 1,136 total deaths with an additional 28 listed as "probable." 54 of those confirmed and 2 of those probable deaths are from Tuscaloosa County.
Statewide, 56,441 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed with 814 additional cases listed as "probable." These cases have resulted in 7,123 hospitalizations and 25,783 recoveries. The ADPH has confirmed 2,777 cases of COVID-19 in Tuscaloosa County with an additional 22 "probable" cases.
Confirmed cases continue to grow among younger demographics. The ADPH now notes that confirmed cases among those ages 5 to 24 account for 19.79% of cases within the state while confirmed cases among those ages 65 or older only account for 16.63% of cases. The highest percentage of confirmed cases (41.51%) is among those between the ages of 25 to 49.
