Sound off Alabama, we want to know what you think.

The husband of the Nicks in the Sticks owner admitted, to, and apologized for, his racist remarks directed toward customers after heavy protests.

He said he is ashamed of his behavior.

"I accept all the condemnation and criticism which I have evoked, all of which is justified towards me. I sincerely apologize to the African Americans who were present at the restaurant that night and specifically apologize to the young man who was having his 22nd birthday. I apologize to the employees of the restaurant and I sincerely apologize to the African American people."

We ask local residents “Do you accept the apology and will you eat at Nicks in the Sticks in the future”.

Many commenters are skeptical of the apology.

I feel like he doesn’t speak for Nicks. He’s not the owner. Think about the waiters / waitresses, the cooks, etc. If people don’t go there, they lose their jobs. The prepared statement he read didn’t really mean much though.

Joy McCollum Collins said..

I think it’s sad to put this business under because this man was out of line. He is NOT the owner. All those waiters and kitchen staff are the ones hurting and they don’t deserve that. Accept his apology, but BAN HIM from ever stepping foot back on that property.

Kiley Lopez said...

Apologies should come from the heart, not a piece of paper. 💁🏻‍♀️

This business will go under. Scripted apology.

Rusty Tate said...

If he agrees to remove himself from being there - ever. Otherwise, she should get busy finding a buyer. Those employees have been there for decades. They don't deserve to be unemployed because of an idiot. Just my opinion
Ty Miller said...
The real owner, the wife, has not made a comment or expressed her opinion. She seemed to defend the actions. Therefore, if the business wants to “sweep it under the rug” I’d rather not eat there.

A few commenters called for forgiveness and understanding.

Let his apology be honored. Is that not the way we'd want it. People make stupid mistakes and have even turned away from their past, turned lives around, changed the way they felt or thought. I believe in God, Jesus is my Savior, therefore.....I must believe in Redemption. Wwjd

If you can't forgive then don't ever ask for forgiveness for yourself because it won't happen. Surely most of you have said things you regretted.
Reggie Smith said...
Mark 11:25 tells the person who has unforgiveness to go to that person who did wrong and forgive them. This means those offended go to the owner and forgive the owner.
No matter what side you’re on in this controversy, there is one thing we can all agree on.
The dedicated, and in some cases longtime, employees do not deserve to have their lives turned upside down. They may lose their jobs.
Please pray for them and their families.
