Alabama Ranks as the Least Safe State During COVID-19

High virus transmission rates and a poor vaccine rollout have ranked Alabama as the nation's least safe state during the novel Coronavirus pandemic.

A new study from WalletHub analyzed data from all 51 states, comparing key metrics such as the virus' rate of transmission, positive COVID-19 tests, hospitalizations, deaths, and the percentage of the population that has been vaccinated against the virus.

Alabama ranked #51 while Alaska, North Dakota, Hawaii, Colorado, and Vermont were ranked the safest states in the nation.

The Alabama Department of Public Health has recently ramped up its COVID-19 vaccination efforts, launching a new vaccine portal and expanding eligibility for workers across the state.

Within Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey's "Safer at Home" order continues through March 5th.
