Hutzler's new role with the Tide has yet to be announced but his updated Twitter biography now reads special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coordinator. Drew Svoboda served as special teams coordinator and Sal Sunseri served as outside linebackers coach for the Crimson Tide in 2021.

Hutzler was with the Rebels for one season as special teams coordinator, prior to that he was with the Texas Longhorns co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

He started his career with San Diego as a defensive assistant in 2006, then spent three seasons at Stanford serving the same role. In 2010 he left for Florida as a special teams coordinator and linebackers coach, he left in 2011 but returned in 2014 after a season in New Mexico. After his time in Gainesville he spent one season in Boston College before coaching at South Carolina from 2016-19.

Hutzler played linebacker at Middlebury College in Vermont from 2002-05 and left the program second in career tackles.

Should he take over as special teams coordinator he will get to work with Will Reichard, James Burnip and will have to find a new kick returner after Jameson Williams and Slade Bolden moved on. Additionally as outside linebackers coach he will be trying to get the most out of Will Anderson and Dallas Turner.
