Alabama Coast Watches for Possible Tropical Development
The Townsquare Media Weather Center is monitoring conditions in The Gulf for the potential for tropical development and what that could mean for Alabama.
The area of concern should track into the northeastern Gulf by Tuesday evening.

“As the storms travel westward, crossing over the state and entering into the extremely warm water of the Gulf, there will be a small window of opportunity to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm,” said The Weather Channel.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, “The odds of this becoming a strong tropical storm or hurricane are very low.”
Tropical Development Chances
Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
Formation chance through 7 days...low...30 percent.
This will cause rain chances for the entire Gulf Coast to increase as it continues to move westward.
The National Hurricane Center said, “Regardless of development, heavy rainfall could produce localized flash flooding over portions of Florida and the north-central Gulf Coast through the middle to the latter portion of this week.”
Currently, it is uncertain whether the increased rainfall will extend into West and Central Alabama.
More to come on this evolving tropical development.
