Alabama Gets a Taste of Winter: Light Snow Showers Possible
This week, we have monitored a weather system that has the possibility of bringing light snow showers to portions of Alabama.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the system is “expected to move through the Ohio River Valley with wrap-around moisture stretching down into the northern half of Alabama this Friday evening.”
Then, a “second (better wave) of moisture/precipitation moves in as a rain/snow mix late today toward sunset from the west.”
Potential Timing & Possible Impacted Areas
The current timing for light snow in portions of the northern third of Central Alabama will be tonight from 6 p.m. until Midnight.
Probable Impacts
There may be isolated snow accumulations in the northern third of Central Alabama, but the snowfall is expected to be less than 1/4 inch, primarily on grassy or elevated areas.
Will Other Areas See Flurries?
Counties located south of the projected area may experience scattered flurries, but there won't be any snow accumulation. Moreover, any precipitation occurring after midnight is anticipated to be minimal, with no further accumulations expected.
