The forest industry is a top employer in many rural Alabama counties. It provides over 54,000 jobs in Alabama, many of them in rural communities. It provides stable jobs, opportunities for economic advancement and the chance to build and sustain families. Its impact extends beyond the mills that produce products from timber, but also to local businesses, gas stations, and restaurants, many of which depend on local populations to sustain their businesses.

Forestry Works is an initiative that seeks to develop a set of qualified workers for Alabama’s forestry and forest manufacturing industries. It does so by educating students, parents and teachers about career opportunities in the forest industry. It also provides a pathway for students and job seekers to start their career in the industry. It provides recruitment opportunities for industry workers, truck drivers, and logging workers.

Stephanie Fuller the Director of Promotions and Economic Development with Forestry Works will be speaking about expanding job opportunities for jobs especially in rural communities at the Annual Meeting of the Alabama Forest Owners’ Association in Tuscaloosa on April 23rd. Fuller will describe workforce development and industry training for workers entering the forest workforce.
