The Southeastern Conference will host its annual media days in Hoover, Alabama from July 19-22 at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham-Wynfrey Hotel. The event was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each SEC coach will be joined by two athletes to answer questions and preview the start of the new season.

The Crimson Tide will bring two familiar names to Hoover to talk about the defending national champions. Junior wide receiver John Metchie III will represent the Alabama offensive side of the football while senior defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis will represent the defense.

Metchie III broke onto the scene as an early enrollee, he won A-Day MVP in 2019 accumulating 133 yards on five receptions. As a sophomore last year, he hauled in 59 receptions for 939 yards and six touchdowns after Jaylen Waddle went down with a broken ankle. The Jon Cornish Trophy winner is the elder statesman of the Alabama skill position players and will speak for the Tide offense in Hoover.

Mathis is a senior leader on the Alabama defensive line, he has accumulated 76 total tackles in his three-year career with 5.5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks. He broke out as a junior with five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three passes defended one forced fumble. He announced his return to Tuscaloosa for his final season in January and now he will head to Hoover to represent the Alabama defense.

Alabama will have its day in Hoover on Wednesday, July 21.
