Another active weather pattern is taking shape to impact our area, bringing bouts of showers and thunderstorms through next week. Your best bet is to keep your umbrella handy for the next several days.

This is part of a larger system that poses a multi-day and multi-state threat stretching across portions of a large swath between the Plains, South, and Southeastern regions, which includes a significant portion of Alabama.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Weather Details Explained

Threats

“Understand the weekend won't be a wash-out at all, but where storms do form, they will be heavy with potential for strong winds,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist. “Some small hail will also be possible with the stronger storms; no tornado concerns.”

Risk Levels and Zones

We are closely monitoring conditions for this weekend. Currently, the Storm Prediction Center has West Alabama split between a marginal and slight risk zone on Friday, while on Saturday, the entire coverage area is under a slight risk. In addition, we are still assessing Sunday, but the level of risk is uncertain for now.

Timeline

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that the timing for threats for Friday and Saturday is favorable for the afternoon and evening hours.

Spann said that “Most, but not necessarily all of the storms will come from about 2:00 until 10:00 p.m.”

The Townsquare Media Weather Center will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates.
