Alabama Choir Delivers Powerful America’s Got Talent Audition
The State of Alabama is in the national spotlight because an Alabama choir stole the hearts of the judges and audience at a recent America’s Got Talent (AGT) audition.
A combination of reality television and competition, AGT showcases a wide range of talent across the United States, featuring a diverse array of performers of all ages and backgrounds.

In a recent episode, Birmingham, Alabama, was at the center of attention as the Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir took the stage while celebrating their 10th Anniversary.
Akheem Lee, the choir’s founder and director, discussed the significant role that Birmingham played during the Civil Rights Movement, highlighting Alabama’s rich history and the 16th Street Baptist Church, which brought international attention during that era.
The director’s passion could be heard loud and clear when he said to the judges that they “wanted the opportunity to show that Birmingham has some talented young people and we want to do something great for the community.”
Standing Ovation for a Joyful Performance
Their outstanding performance of “Joyful, Joyful, Lord We Adore Thee” had all the AGT judges, Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Mel B, along with host Terry Crews, on their feet for a standing ovation.
Cowell had a smile on his face the entire performance.
Vergara's hands were up.
Crews was rocking the vibe.
The crowd went wild.
Simon Cowell’s Emotional ‘BIG’ Moment
As Cowell exclaimed, “That was BIG,” tears were already flowing from the Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir, the director, the audience, and even me, because it truly was BIG.
The best part is when Cowell acknowledged the hard work that went into the performance. Recognizing that every member of the choir “played the perfect part.”
As choir members were on the AGT stage in anticipation, Cowell said, “I’m so honored that you would come here on our 20th anniversary, and in return, I want to give you something.”
Golden Buzzer Glory for Birmingham Choir
The stage was filled with gold confetti as Cowell triggered the GOLDEN BUZZER, which now sends the Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir directly to the live shows.
Congratulations to Akheem Lee, the members of Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir, and their support team. You deserve this accolade.
