This week is back to school week in Alabama.

It's exciting for many folks (parents and kids) as the new school year brings new friends and new experiences.

My parents shared these with me when I was in school in Alabama, and I am convinced they are still SO valuable today.

These are the 10 Commandments for all Alabama students going back to school. Please share these with your children.

1. If you see a student struggling to make friends, thou shalt say hi.

2. If you see a student who is eating lunch alone, thou shalt ask if you can sit with them.

3. If you see a student being picked on, thou shalt defend that student.

4. If you see a student who is shy, thou shalt smile at them.

5. If you see another student who is not included with the in crowd, thou shalt include them.

6. If you see a student quiet and alone, thou shalt talk to them as you never know what they face in or outside of school.

7. Thou shalt be a leader.

8. Thou shalt not bully another student.

9. Thou shalt try your hardest in class.

10. Thou shalt enjoy what will be some of the best years of your life.
