27-year-old shot dead in Cottondale, no suspect identified yet
A 27-year-old black man was found shot dead in Cottondale Thursday night, according to investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
Captain Kip Hart, VCU's assistant commander, said Tuscaloosa County sheriff's deputies were called to 5703 Clearview Street in Cottondale around 10:40 Thursday night on reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police found Cory Tyron Mitchell, who had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene.
As of Friday morning, police have not identified a suspect or a motive for the killing, but Hart said investigators are interviewing witnesses, processing the crime scene and collecting video surveillance footage they hope will lead them to a suspect.
More information on the killing will be released as it becomes available.
