247Sports named quarterback Bryce Young as Alabama’s rising star for the 2021 season. Young is the favorite to come out of a heated quarterback competition this spring involving Paul Tyson and 2021 four-star signee Jalen Milroe.

Young, a five-star prospect coming out of high school was the nation’s top-ranked dual-threat quarterback according to all major outlets. He was the 2019 High School Quarterback of the Year by the National Quarterback Club, Maxwell Offensive Player of the Year, co-National Player of the Year by MaxPreps and the Gatorade Football Player of the Year in California.

As a senior at Mater Dei High School, Young threw for 4,528 yards and 58 touchdowns, while completing 71.9 percent of his passes. He added another 357 yards on the ground and 10 more scores. Young put up mind boggling numbers at the high school level, throwing for 13,250 yards and 152 touchdowns, versus just 18 interceptions and rushed for 1,084 rushing yards and 26 more scores.

Per 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, he is tied with Alabama offensive tackles Andre Smith and Cyrus Kouandjio as coach Saban's highest-rated recruits of all time.

The highly touted recruit served as a backup in 2020 and watched Mac Jones put together one of the greatest single seasons for a quarterback in college football history. In nine games, Young completed 13-of-22 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.

Young enters a pressured packed season after seeing quarterbacks, Jones and Tua Tagovailoa become Heisman finalists ahead of them.
