Revised 2025 Hurricane Forecast: What Alabamians Should Know
The peak of hurricane season typically happens between mid-August and late October, with the height of the activity around mid-September.
Several factors in the atmosphere and ocean become more favorable during this time, such as “tropical waves are more defined,” “dry, dusty air diminishes,” wind shear decreases,” “sea-surface temperatures are warmest,” and “instability increases,” said The Weather Channel.

Earlier this year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) published its 2025 hurricane season predictions. The original forecast called for the following:
- 60% chance of an above-average season
- 30% chance of a near-average season
- 13-19 named storms with 6-10 hurricanes, and 3-5 major hurricanes (Cat 3+).
Now, NOAA has provided an update about the season forecasting the following:
- 50% chance of an above-average season
- 35% chance of a near-average season
- Named Storms – 13-18
- Hurricanes – 5-9
- Major Hurricanes (Cat 3+) – 2-5
As the peak of the hurricane season is here, it’s important to stay informed and prepared, even if you reside inland, as hurricanes can track from the Alabama coastline into and through Alabama.
