Winter Continues, Coldest Temperatures Of This Season Happen Soon
Winter Storm Orlena made an impact on the Northeast, bringing heavy snow and strong winds yesterday. This caused some significant travel impacts in the Northeast. Today, Orlena brings snow to portions of the Appalachians, Mid-Atlantic region, upstate New York, and New England.
Today for the Yellowhammer State
Winter is in full swing. I am glad we are just dealing with cold temperatures. Today in Alabama, we should have sunshine with highs in the mid to the upper 40s. Tonight will be clear and cold. Lows will be in the upper 20s.
The National Weather Service Birmingham notes that there will be “clearing skies with highs from the mid-40s north to the low 50s south today. Clear with a freeze tonight with lows in the 20s. Sunny and a bit warmer on Wednesday with highs in the 50s.”
Next Cold Wave
Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. [Sighs] Six more weeks of winter! The next wave of cold temperatures will make its way to Alabama on Sunday afternoon. These could be the coldest temperatures so far this season.
James Spann provides some more guidance in that “a few snow flurries are possible over North Alabama as the cold air rushes in, but for now, no impact or accumulation is expected. Temperatures will fall into the 30s over the Tennessee Valley, with low 40s for the I-20 corridor.”
Monday is an area of concern due to the potential of a hard freeze. Currently, the projected lows could range between 15 and 25 degrees. There will be more information to come about the much colder temperatures returning.
