What’s Covered–And What’s NOT Covered–for Alabama’s Tax-Free Weekend? [VIDEOS]

Now’s your chance to save some serious cash: Alabama’s annual Sales Tax Holiday is this weekend! Ready to learn what’s covered for tax free weekend? Class is in session, because we’ve got a video guide for you!

Back-to-school shopping can put a big dent in any parent’s budget, but Alabama’s Sales Tax Holiday gives families a much-needed break. During tax free weekend, shoppers do NOT have to pay state or local taxes* on approved items; that means savings of up to 9%, and when you’re shelling out hundreds of bucks for clothes, backpacks, pens, and tons of other supplies, those savings really add up!

Last year, I went to Target with my favorite co-worker, Jade Nicole from 92.9 WTUG, to shoot these fun little videos for y’all. I had so much fun creating this video I just HAD to share it again! (Don't worry about the dates in the videos--Tax Free Weekend 2016 runs from August 5 to August 7.)

Jade and I went through the store and tried to highlight a few of the biggest items that are sold tax-free this weekend, so check out the video above to see what IS covered. I straight up caused a scene in Target. I'm surprised they didn't call security on me, as I was acting like a big idiot. LOL!

• School Supplies (paper, notebooks, binders, pens, pencils–it’s all covered!)

One major bummer for parents: sports, dance, and band equipment are still taxable this weekend; that means everything from cleats to tutus and flutes to footballs are still subject to state and local taxes. Another tough break: eyeglasses, contact lenses, sunglasses, goggles, and safety glasses are NOT exempt, which means you’ll be shelling out cash to cover the tax.
