West Alabama Weather Alert: Damaging Winds, Hail Possible Memorial Day
As we celebrate Memorial Day, often seen as the unofficial start of summer, let's not forget its true meaning. This holiday honors the men and women of the military who gave their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Honestly, I’ve lost track of how many days West Alabama has been experiencing some strong to severe weather. Unfortunately, the coming days don’t look promising for any change due to the chance of rounds of thunderstorms expected to move across Alabama.
Threat Area and Risk Level
The Storm Prediction Center has the risk set at marginal (level 1 out of 5) for today, Tuesday, and Wednesday, including the West Alabama counties of Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker.
Potential Threats
The primary daily threats are “damaging winds up to 60 mph and large hail up to quarter size,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
“Like recent days, we will have a passing shower or storm from time to time,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist. “It won't rain all day, and it won't necessarily rain everywhere.”
Timeline
The overall threat timing for today, Memorial Day, will be from 4 p.m. until Midnight. However, West Alabama communities should stay aware from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Tuesday’s timing is for the afternoon into the evening, while Wednesday is currently focused on the afternoon.
