Weekend Storms in Alabama Could Bring Strong Winds, Heavy Rain
According to James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, there is a possible "stormy weekend” ahead.
Timing
The Townsquare Media Weather Center will closely monitor a system that will potentially enter our area from Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Currently, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) does not have Alabama under any warnings. However, there is a severe weather threat to our west for portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.
“This will be a classic December storm system for the Deep South with excellent dynamics but poor thermodynamics,” said Spann.
Potential Threats for Portions of Alabama
A well-structured line of thunderstorms is expected to move across the state on Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Although some of these storms may bring strong winds and heavy rainfall, the limited surface-based instability should help reduce the potential for severe weather.
A significant portion of Alabama is facing drought concerns, so expected rainfall amounts of approximately one inch throughout the state bring us all some good news.
