Dog owners in Alabama need to make sure they are aware of pet food safety alerts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

There is a current outbreak of salmonella that has been connected to dry dog food. The pet food that was subject to a recall was available for purchase across the entire country. Currently, there 7 states that have reported illnesses that are Alabama, California, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Minnesota, and Oklahoma.

During this outbreak, individuals became ill because of encountering recalled dog food, handling items such as dog bowls that had the contaminated food, or being in contact with the feces or saliva of dogs that consumed the affected food. It is noteworthy that many of the individuals affected by this outbreak are infants, said the CDC.

The extent of this outbreak may extend beyond the states with confirmed cases, and the actual number of affected individuals is probably significantly greater than what has been officially reported.

For any inquiries regarding the recall, please reach out to the pet food company at 1-888-428-7544 during their operating hours of 8 AM to 11 PM Central Time, seven days a week.
