Last Wednesday morning, I received a phone call from my wife as she was on her way to take our 3 year old to school for his Teams of Tomorrow basketball practice. As usual, they took the short cut down 14th street off of Kicker Rd. to McFarland Blvd. As my wife approached the traffic light, a few Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation employees were working hard along the street mowing grass.

Then the unexpected happened! An object traveling at a tremendous rate of speed launched from underneath one of the TDOT mowers and shattered the passenger side door glass of our car! My wife immediately pulled safely off the street. I have to give kudos to the TDOT workers. They quickly were at the car asking if everyone was ok and giving my wife instruction on what to do next. It was pretty simple but there are proper steps to take when something like that happens..

  • Don't leave the scene!
  • Call the Tuscaloosa Police Department to file a report
  • Submit a claim to the City of Tuscaloosa.
  • Wait on your claim to be approved.

Pretty simple right? So simple in fact, that my son made it to school in time for his basketball practice!
