Former Alabama running back Trent Richardson is making a return to professional football, but he'll be doing it north of the border.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League announced Tuesday that they had signed the former 3rd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Roughriders have a 6-6 record for the 2017 regular season, which will end on November 4. If Richardson makes an appearance for the team, it will be his first game action since the 2015 preseason with the Oakland Raiders. His last regular season carry came against the Tennessee Titans in December of 2014 when he was still a member of the Indianapolis Colts.

Richardson finished his NFL career with 2,032 yards rushing, 912 yards receiving, and 19 total touchdowns.
