These days, I'm spending more and more time on the road with my family, and I'm realizing just how important this time is.

When I look back and think about it, road trips are good for the soul. No matter the age you were, no matter how seldom or often you went on road trips, you always remember those moments.

Looking at clouds pointing out shapes you see, the strange man in the yellow car that looked scary, or the food you ate, and the music you heard while on the road. You never forget those moments.

While recently on the road, I saw a young kid trying to do what we've all done at some point. As his parents' car passed an 18-wheeler, he hung out of the window and did the international "Honk your horn" gesture to the truck.

As I awaited the honk, it was to no avail....The trucker either didn't see or ignored the young boy.

I stayed behind the vehicle for about 20 more miles down the road, he tried again to another 18-wheeler truck and...NOTHING.

WHAT?!

Are we really on the road robbing young children of the experience and feeling that we've all felt and loved?

Can the truck drivers come to the front so we can discuss this issue? Is it irritating to have people do this to you? Is it against the rules?

There just has to be a reason that both truck drivers didn't honk their horns for this young kid. I refuse to believe truck drivers are intentionally out here destroying precious childhood memories.
