The Strip’s Iconic Houndsooth Sports Bar Adds Robust Food Menu
One of the most popular bars on the Tuscaloosa Strip is adding a full dinner menu, offering patrons 20 choices of appetizers, entrees, wings and sides prepared next door in a full-service kitchen next to the bar.
The menu is available from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., and its entrees include burgers, a spicy chicken sandwich, tacos, chicken fries, a pulled pork barbeque sandwich and more.
The bar will also offer 8-piece, 12-piece and 24-piece wings tossed in medium, hot and XXX hot sauces.
Olivia Hodges, the Houndstooth's bar manager, said they've been looking for ways to offer something new to customers for some time, and are thrilled to have the food menu finally in place.
"One student made the comment after eating our chicken sandwich that he would never financially recover from this," Hodges said. "Several groups have said the onion rings are the best they've EVER had."
The menu also offers a wide range of appetizers, including Crimson & White BBQ Nachos, a recreation of the famous Big Bad Wolves barbeque nachos served on the Strip before and during home football games, with one addition -- the Houndstooth variation slathers the nachos in both smoky BBQ sauce and a peppery white sauce.
Other apps include Conecuh in a Blanket, Fried Pickles, Sloppy Fries, Pimento Cheese Crackers topped with thick-cut bacon and more.
"Sloppy fries are the 21-and-up version of a messy fry -- If you're underage you go to Quick Grill, if you're over you go to Houndstooth," Hodges said. "The Conecuh in a Blanket pairs perfectly with our house-made spicy mustard and it's incredibly interesting listening to out-of-towners butcher the pronunciation."
Hodges said Houndstooth hopes to add lunch and late-night hours when state and municipal pandemic regulations are relaxed and bars are allowed to return to their normal operations.
The food menu is sure to help the Houndstooth in uncertain times, as area bars are battered by mandates about their occupancy, limitations on when they can serve alcohol, a decrease in student population and uncertainty about how the college football season will look, if one is played at all.
