TCSS Receives Almost $400,000 Grant For Career Tech Center

So many organizations talk about investing in our youth. West Alabama Works & Appalachian Regional Commission is making a large investment in our students.

The Tuscaloosa County School System received a huge donation of $389,440. This donation was made by West Alabama Works and the Appalachian Regional Commission and will go towards renovations for the Brookwood Career Technical Annex. According to TCSS, this will be the second phase of renovations for the Brookwood Career Technical Annex. This will include facilities for instruction in health sciences, hospitality and tourism, and modern manufacturing.

I think it's so cool how students in Tuscaloosa County Schools can get hands-on training for these high demand jobs before they even graduate.

When speaking with TCSS, Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Chief Operating Officer and West Alabama Works Executive Director Donny Jones said, “Career technical education is the basis for our workforce pipeline, giving West Alabama’s students the best possible chance at success, by training them in in-demand fields while in high school."

TCSS Director of Career Technical Dennis Duncan spoke about how much these donations help the students of TCSS, “These POWER Grant funds, made possible by West Alabama Works, were very helpful in enabling the Tuscaloosa County School System to develop an outstanding career tech center in Brookwood that serves students from multiple high schools and diverse student populations."

I definitely hope students are taking advantage of this amazing opportunity at the Brookwood Career Technical Annex. To be able to gain experience for these kinds of jobs before graduation is truly a wonderful opportunity.
