The Auburn Tigers are set to begin its 2020 season at home against the Kentucky Wildcats this Saturday. Should the Tigers win on Saturday the celebration on The Plains will look a little bit different than in years past. Auburn University officials are requesting fans do not roll the oak trees at Toomer's Corner this season.

This week, Auburn football head coach, Gus Malzahn, reported that the Tigers were down five starters this week because of COVID related issues. The Tigers had 2 positive tests from this round of testing, coming off the heels of an announcement of 9 other positive tests on Aug. 30th.

The Auburn Tigers did not hold football practices last week due to numerous student-athletes being placed in quarantine due to COVID-19 infection and exposure. The Tigers set the preparation for the 2020 season back by canceling two practices and a scrimmage.

Auburn's Gus Malzhan said today that over the course of the entire summer the Tigers have dealt with 33 positive COVID-19 tests from its players as well as one positive test from a staff member. The Tigers currently have four players still going through testing procedures but Malzahn said he expects results back by the end of the week.

Former Auburn football coach Pat Dye has been hospitalized due to COVID-19 coronavirus. According to Toccoa First United Methodist Church, Dye has been hospitalized as a result of complications dealing with kidney disease. He coached at Auburn from 1981-1992 and served as athletic director during those years, he was inducted into the college football hall of fame in 2005 and the field at Jordan-Hare Stadium is named in his honor.
