Steve Moakler Shares Emotional ‘Wheels’ Music Video
Steve Moakler has released a new music video for his song "Wheels."
Moakler's "Wheels" music video matches the reminiscent tone of the song. To show the passage of time, the video's director, Reid Long -- who took home Video of the Year at the 2016 ACM Awards for Eric Church’s “Mr. Misunderstood” -- chose to highlight the growth of a child as he goes from one set of wheels to another: his stroller to his first car. ""Wheels" is a song about life, the passage of time, how it feels and hurts,” Moakler tells Taste of Country. “It’s a dose of something new, and I’ve always wanted to write a song like that.
"My real heart is getting to tell a story lyrically that connects universally," Moakler adds. "That is tough to do, and I feel like that song does that. I feel like it’s a scenario everyone can put themselves in.”
Moakler co-wrote "Wheels" alongside Gordie Sampson and Caitlyn Smith. The song appears on the singer's recently released album Steel Town, and the track's theme of time runs throughout the entire project.
“Half the songs are about looking back, and half the songs are about being in the moment and what is available in the moment,” Moakler tells The Boot. “I was really kind of reflecting on that, and I was thinking, ‘Man, those seem like two contradictory things, but I think somehow they make each other sweeter. Because when you’re thinking about those moments in the past and what they mean to you, how much you might ache for them to be back again … I think the record is really about that tension.”
