Shania Twain: Country Radio Is ‘Very Ageist’
Twain is set to perform at the upcoming 2019 American Music Awards on Nov. 24, and she called out fellow performers Taylor Swift and Lizzo as two artists she hopes she runs into. She also touched on who are some of her favorites in country music right now, including female artists who are also struggling for airplay.
"I love Little Big Town, I think they're so incredibly talented. There's a lot of good female talent out there, and they've been more vocal about the resistance at radio to include them more equally in airplay," Twain says.
"I'm hoping that does start to make a change because there are many female artists with strong songs that belong in the Top 40 on country radio that are just not there."
11 Country Artists You Won't Believe Are 50:
Twain went on to explain that "radio isn't the end all be all of somebody's success today" due to the availability of digital outlets to get music to the public.
"But it's very frustrating and it's a disservice not only to the artist, but to the public, that they can't turn on the radio and hear all the best music that's being made right now," she states.
Twain is set to take the stage on Sunday, Nov. 24, at the 2019 American Music Awards to perform a medley of her biggest hits. Twain will also return to Las Vegas with her new residency, Let's Go, which will take place at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino beginning on Dec. 6. Tickets for the residency are available at the venue's website.
