National Weather Service in Birmingham - Latest Weather Alerts
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 11 p.m.
This watch includes the following West Alabama Counties.
Greene
Hale
Perry
Sumter
Other counties under the watch include Dallas and Marengo.
River Statement for the Cahaba River
- Multiple rainfall events over the past few days are producing rises on the Cahaba River.
- However, levels are expected to remain below established flood stages, and any overflow along the river should be of a minor nature.
- The Cahaba River at Marion Junction.
* At 8:00 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 8.7 feet.
* Action stage is 15.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 36.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 22.6 feet
early Friday afternoon.
* Impact...At 15.0 feet...Flooding around Oakmulgee Creek begins and
cattle need to be moved to higher ground. Overflow of pasture lands
increases at stages above 20 feet.

There is a marginal to slight risk (level 1 to 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms late this morning through late afternoon. The greatest risk is across the southern half of the area. The threats will be damaging winds and large hail up to quarter-size.
