SEC Changing Format of Spring Meetings

SEC Commissioner, Greg Sankey, announced the conference will be moving forward with a new format for this year's SEC Spring Meetings.  The league, for the second straight season, will not be conducting its annual spring meetings in Destin, FL.

In an announcement released Wednesday, the commissioner said,

"The SEC Spring Meetings provide an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, plan for the future and focus on our mission to serve people through our universities," Sankey said. "We have learned a lot in the last year including how to conduct effective meetings through technology. We believe a combination of smaller in-person meetings on varying dates and continuing use of virtual meeting technology is more appropriate given the current circumstances than a multi-day indoor conference room gathering."

The annual meeting, which has been held in Destin, FL every year since 1985, typically brings together representatives of each 14 universities, including head coaches of football and men's and women's basketball, within the conference to discuss topics such as rule changes, current issues, and overall strategy. With last season seeing the cancellation of the event, the SEC will be moving forward with a different format for this year's edition.

While details have yet to be released, the SEC has said the Spring Meetings will be held over the course of this spring and summer, and from what Sankey said it appears most of the meetings will be virtual.

Alongside the business done at the event, the SEC usually announces the recipients of the scholar-athlete of the year, community service leader of the year, and professor of the year awards, so expect announcements for those awards over the course of these meetings.
