Risk of Severe Storms for Portions of Alabama Today

Today, Friday, December 27, there is the possibility of a “small risk of severe storms this afternoon across our far southwest counties,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of Central and Southwest Alabama under a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

This includes portions of the Townsquare Media Coverage Area:

Bibb

Greene

Hale

Perry

Pickens – a good portion of the county

Sumter

Tuscaloosa – a good portion of the county

Potential Threats

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said residents should be aware of the possible threats of isolated, brief tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa's Chief Meteorologist said, " Heavy storms could produce gusty winds.”

The current outlook on timing is from 12 pm - 8 pm.

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow, Saturday, December 28, another round of severe weather could impact all of Central Alabama, with a more elevated risk in the west.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.
