Rare Southern Winter Storm Breaks Alabama Snow Record
Forecasting winter weather in the southern region can be tricky at times. However, the recent rare winter storm in the Deep South brought a winter wonderland to areas where it is typically unheard of to get snow.

As a weather forecaster, it was really odd to report in Alabama that the snow amounts increased the farther south you went. It is typically the opposite in the Yellowhammer State.
The Weather Channel reported that this “once-in-a-lifetime winter storm continues to hit millions hard in the South, shutting down travel and leaving millions with the most snow recorded in at least a century in cities like New Orleans, Mobile, and Pensacola.”
The scenes of snow-covered Alabama beaches are wild. Alabamians were making snow angels just a few steps away from the ocean.
Rare Southern Winter Storm Breaks Alabama Snow Record
In Mobile, Alabama, there were 7.5 inches of snow. The Weather Channel said this is a “New all-time 1—and 2-day snow record.”
According to The Weather Channel, other cities that broke records were “Milton, Florida, with 8.8 inches, New Orleans, Louisiana, with 9 inches, and Pensacola, Florida, with 7.6 inches.”
Some additions may be added to the record-breaking southern snow total amounts list.
