Potential Thanksgiving Weather Scenarios for West Alabama
Before you start to bake those pies and break out Grannie’s recipes, be sure you have a good handle on the possible weather trends.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued two potential weather scenarios for Thanksgiving. A “system that is expected to move through the area bringing a high chance of rain (60%). We're also watching how the system evolves to determine any potential severe threat.”
Scenario 1 “is a stronger system that tracks further north, supporting more unstable air in Central Alabama.”
With this scenario, there might be increased thunderstorm activity, with the possibility of strong to severe storms occurring in parts of Central Alabama.
Scenario 2 “is a weaker system that struggles to develop and tracks further south.”
This situation would limit thunderstorm formation, resulting in primarily rain for Central Alabama.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said “Global models continue to suggest Thanksgiving Day will be wet and potentially stormy with a cold front approaching. Still too early to know if severe storms will be an issue.”
What About Black Friday Weekend?
“Much colder air follows the front; the weather looks cold and dry Friday through the weekend (November 29-December 1),” said Spann.
