James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “For the southern counties, the air will be somewhat unstable, but wind fields are not especially strong. Some of the heavier storms could produce strong wind gusts and small hail.”

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the potential risks are “damaging winds to 60 mph, quarter-size hail and brief, isolated tornadoes. And the current timeframe is Wednesday 10 p.m. through Thursday 10 a.m.”

“The chance of a brief, isolated tornado is low, but not zero,” said Spann. “Best chance of rain will come from about midnight tomorrow night through 12 noon Thursday, and amounts of around 1/2 inch are likely.”

The Townsquare Media Weather Center will continue to monitor this developing weather situation.
