While the golf world focuses its attention across the pond to the Open Championship (aka the British Open), right here in USA, the remaining professionals are competing in the Barbasol Championship in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Due to the fact that many of the top pros on the PGA tour (including Justin Thomas) are competing at Royal St. George’s, several slots are open to professionals who don’t usually get the opportunity to compete on the PGA tour.

Two Alabama alums at very different points in their career are trying to take advantage of their chance.

24-year old Davis Riley, a 2019 graduate of Alabama is making just his 5th start of the year on the tour. This is just the beginning of seeing Riley on tour though as he is virtually assured of a promotion to full time PGA tour status for next season as a result of his standing on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Riley has won twice and has seven top 10 finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour this year which lands him 6th currently in their rankings. The top 25 annually advance to the PGA tour so hopefully we will be seeing much more of Riley in the future.

At the other end of the spectrum is Jason Bohn. A 1995 graduate of Alabama, the 48 year old Bohn has had a nice career on the PGA Tour earning over $16 Million over the years including 2 wins and 30 top 10 finishes.

By virtue of his status as a past champion, Bohn gets into events from time to time and is making his 4th start of the year this week.

Both Riley and Bohn have finished their first rounds strong and currently sit in the top 20 tied for 16th, each with 4 under par this afternoon. We certainly hope that these alums give Bama golf fans someone else to cheer for this weekend in addition to Justin Thomas at the British Open.
