On the Way: More Wind, Rain, Hail, Possible Tornadoes in Alabama
Alabamians, we encourage you to stay weather-aware this week, as our area could experience more severe weather soon.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a storm system is expected to impact a large portion of the area on Friday. It seems that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms throughout the region.
Possible Threats
The current potential risks for Friday include “damaging winds up to 60 mph, hail up to a quarter size, and a few tornadoes,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Risk Areas
The Storm Prediction Center has the “southern 2/3 of the state in a severe weather risk; it looks like unstable air will extend farther north into the state for this event,” James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.
Also, the "gradient winds will also be strong Friday, and rain amounts of 1-2 inches are likely.”
