My son is the apparently the “new music consultant” for our radio station. All “new music” calls should be forwarded to him from this point.

Tonight, as I was milling around in the kitchen, my phone/mp3 player blaring songs by Mumford & Sons, Jack White, Joanna Smith, and Randy Houser. Then David Bradley’s “Hard Time Movin’ On” came on and my son was like, “That’s song’s cool dad”. I said to him, “Yeah, we played that on 95.3 The Bear a few years back. I’m kinda friends with David and he played that song in my studio a few years ago”. To which my son responds, “Do you still play it?” I reluctantly said, “No. The song is a few years old.”

Let me paint the picture before I give you his response. My son has grown up with a radio dad. I have friends in the business, he’s met some of them, been to shows, I’ve played music for him since he was a baby and he’s been to the radio station at least 100 times. He knows everything about the promotion of music. So when he tells me, “That doesn’t make sense. If you play it, it becomes a new song again. If you play it enough, it’ll become a big song again. I think you should play it”. Son, I have taught you well.

With that being said, I guess I’ve got to at least blog about it now.

David has a cool story. He's a Nashville resident but is originally from Sunderland, in Northern England, where he spent the majority of his youth. His father was an oil engineer and brought back tapes of country legends like Merle and Willie when he'd return home. David went to work on the oil rigs as well and quickly realized, thanks to a few co-workers with good ears, that he a knack for singing and playing the guitar. The rest as they say, is history.

Here is my friend David Bradley’s song. It features country legend Rodney Crowell. You may remember when 95.3 The Bear gave it a few spins back in 2011.
