On Tuesday, a storm system is expected to enter the area, bringing conditions that could lead to strong to severe storms in our southern counties, said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

“Global models continue to slow down the system that will impact our state early next week,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.

Originally predictions were forecasted for a Monday arrival of severe weather to portions of Alabama. Now, “Monday looks like a mild, dry day with a high in the 70s. It now looks like the bulk of the event will come Monday night into Tuesday,” said Spann.

Adjusted Timing and Possible Impacted Areas

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has adjusted the timing, threats and potential impacted areas.

Current Storm Prediction Center Risk Areas

The SPC has designated a risk area stretching from East Texas to South Mississippi. However, as of now, Alabama is not included in the formal severe weather risk for Tuesday according to the SPC.

The Townsquare Media weather team will continue to monitor conditions over the weekend to keep you informed.

“Trends are toward a weaker surface low and very limited surface-based instability, which will keep the chance of severe storms fairly low,” said Spann.

Some Good News

Looking at the bright side, Alabama is faced with concerning drought issues. Tuesday and Tuesday night are expected to bring much-needed rainfall, with approximately 1-2 inches anticipated across the state.
