Missing Marysville Woman Found Dead Near Alabama State Park
Vendula "Wendy" Rose, a Marysville, California woman reported missing in September, was found dead on Saturday near Cheaha State Park in Alabama. The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the discovery of her remains around 11:30 a.m. in a remote area northeast of the park, following a tip from a hunter. Authorities believe the body is Rose’s, but official identification is pending dental record verification.
Rose, a pilot and mother, had planned a solo hiking trip to Alabama, which she had mentioned to family before leaving. On September 20, she entered the state and hiked the Pinoti Trail, a route she had long wanted to explore. She later traveled to South Carolina, returning to Cleburne County on September 24. Surveillance footage showed her alone in a local business before she headed to Cheaha State Park, where she parked her car.
On October 4, her family reported her missing after she failed to return to work. Investigators found her car at the Pinhoti Trailhead parking lot the next day and launched a search of the park. Despite an extensive ground and aerial search, Rose remained unaccounted for.
The sheriff’s department had previously stated that there was no evidence of foul play and suspected that Rose may have been experiencing a mental health crisis. Her vehicle contained several unusual items, including notes and ammunition, raising concerns about her well-being.
The discovery of Rose's remains has brought closure to the search, though the investigation into the circumstances of her death is ongoing.
