Sound Off: Is Midland’s ‘Make a Little’ a Hit? [Listen]
"But Midland, what is 'Make a Little' really about?" said no one ever. The trio's newest retro swinger is not just a sonic throwback. It recalls the wink, wink, WINK! that so many country songs from a lost generation embraced.
Singer Mark Wystrach spends most of "Make a Little" hinting at his intentions before just flat-out saying, "I’m talkin’ ‘bout lovin’ all night" as if it needed to be spelled out. The three-minute-long country charmer will keep you smiling. A more skeptical review may point out that once upon a time, country males showed some effort in trying to get a girl into the bedroom and that these days "Hey babe" and "Dayum!" are the best a gentleman can come up with. Don't go there. Enjoy "Make a Little" for what it is: Alabama reincarnated.
Perhaps most important to this group's future is that "Make a Little" proves a dedication to a more vintage style is not creatively restricting. One hears Dwight Yoakam's influence throughout a track that's nothing like "Drinkin' Problem." Versatility won't be an issue for Midland.
Midland Has One of the Best Songs of 2017!
Did You Know?: Two-thirds of Midland are making a little with their wives. Only lead singer Mark Wystrach is single.
Midland's "Make a Little" Lyrics:
It’s a hard livin’, tail kickin’ / Trip that we’re all on, but I’m bettin’ / We could find a little sunshine in the night / It’s a back breakin’, soul takin’ / Road we walk, so what are we waitin’ for / Baby, let’s turn off the lights / ‘Cause girl, there’s just not enough love in the world.
Chorus:
So we should make a little / Generate a little / Maybe even make the world a better place a
little / We could turtle dove / Dixieland delight / You know it can’t be wrong when it feels so
right / It all comes down to you and me, girl / There’s just not enough love in the world / So we should make a little / Then make a little more tonight.
It’s a clock punchin’, cash crunchin’ / And it all adds up to nothin’ / If you’re in this thing alone / So don’t tease me, it’s so easy / To just turn off the TV / And make some headlines of our own / Yeah girl / There’s just not enough love in the world.
So we should make a little / Then make a little more / We can make a little / Then make a little more / We should make a little / Then make a little more tonight / I’m talkin’ ‘bout lovin’ all night.
