Longtime Friends Thomas Rhett and Tyler Hubbard Are Bonding Even More Over Being New Dads
It's hard to think of a more fitting title for Thomas Rhett's third studio album than Life Changes. Not only did the 27-year-old country star's career skyrocket in 2017 thanks to the back-to-back chart-topping singles "Craving You" and "Unforgettable," he and his wife Lauren also welcomed not one but two new daughters. So, how does Rhett manage to balance fatherhood with life as a touring and recording artist? According to the singer, it helps to have a friend who's in the same boat.
"Tyler Hubbard [of Florida Georgia Line] is one of my best friends in the world," Rhett told The Boot and other reporters during a recent press conference. "We relate on a level that I don't relate with people who don't have children."
Hubbard, who became a dad in December, is uniquely suited to appreciate how Rhett's perspective has shifted since his daughters were born: "Once you have kids, the things you want to talk about -- like sleep -- don't make sense to other people," Rhett says. "Tyler and I, we're living the same life, except for we have two and they have one -- which is way harder, by the way!"
"It's been really cool to talk to Tyler and share, 'Are you sleeping on the road? Are you sleeping at home? Does it kill you when you have to leave?'" Rhett continues. "We both experienced the same freedoms, and now we're both in this place where we love having children, but we're both still getting used to the fact of what our new life is now. So it's really nice to have a buddy who also does music for a living."
For touring musicians, time at home is a precious commodity, and Rhett is currently enjoying spending time with his family before he hits the road for his headlining Life Changes Tour this spring. The run kicks off on April 5 in Tulsa, Okla.
