"Billaboard" says the NFL is in talks with Lady Gaga for the Super Bowl halftime show, so it sounds like the league plans on having yet another pop concert ... rather than something rock or country.

Supposedly, the NFL was really impressed with how Gaga handled the National Anthem at the last season's Super Bowl.

An NFL rep said, "we've had conversations with several fantastic artists about the Super Bowl Halftime Show.  However, at this point we do not have a final decision."

Lady Gaga has a new album on the way, and doing the Super Bowl would definitely increase her exposure, since NFL fans probably aren't a big sub-section of her fanbase.

But who knows.  Last we heard, Adele was going to do it ... but she said she turned them down, and then the league said they never offered it to her. Drama for yo mama.

The Super Bowl is at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX on February 5th, 2017.
