Key Information on Alabama’s Second Wave of Severe Weather
[This weather briefing was updated at 1:23 p.m. with new timing information. Please scroll down. - Thanks, Mary K - Weather Forecaster]
Severe weather impacted the Yellowhammer State earlier today. A few examples are reports of damage and injuries in Hanegar, Alabama, east of Huntsville.
Also, there are reports of damage at Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, Alabama. In a Facebook Post, it said that the business “received damage due to a line of tornados that came through Scottsboro last night. We are grateful that the main store did not receive significant damage.”
Our severe weather has been part of a more extensive system that has impacted many states. The Weather Channel said the “death toll is rising from an outbreak of severe weather and tornadoes that started Monday in the Plains and has since pushed into the Midwest and South.”
As the day progresses, our team is on standby to monitor the potential for round 2 of severe weather across portions of Alabama later tonight into Friday morning.
UPDATED TIMING INFORMATION AS OF 1:23 P.M.
Please be sure to stay aware and prepared, as timing is a concern for us because the possibility of severe weather comes when people sleep.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham is expecting severe weather on Thursday from 7 p.m. until Friday at 5 a.m.
Risk Areas
“The highest coverage of storms will likely be south of I-20 (Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Anniston), and especially south of U.S. 80 (Demopolis to Selma to Montgomery to Opelika),” said Spann.
The Townsquare Media Coverage Area is between the "marginal," “slight” and “enhanced” risk areas.

UPDATED THREAT INFORMATION
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said "Clusters of storms could produce damaging winds, large hail, and a tornado or two. It doesn't look to storm constantly tonight, but instead come in batches."
As always, I like to stress that as weather conditions progress, this could change information about the incoming system. We will bring you all necessary updates.
