Hurts, Palmer & Henry Days Away from Alabama Football

The Alabama Crimson Tide is just two days away from kicking off the 2020 season. It has been a long, strange offseason but finally, after a delayed start to the football season, the SEC is on the precipice of starting a unique season.

With only two days left until the action begins, let's look back on some of the more memorable players to don the #2 jersey for the Crimson Tide.

Jalen Hurts - Hurts came to Alabama as a 4-star quarterback out of Channelview, Texas and immediately made an impact on the Crimson Tide. He did not start his first game against Southern Cal but he certainly finished the game, leading Alabama to a 52-6 victory.

Hurts went on to start for the Tide for the next two seasons and led the Tide to a 26-2. He was SEC Offensive Player of the Year, SEC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-SEC in 2016. He won two SEC Championships for the Tide and the 2018 CFP National Championship.

He passed for 4,861 yards and 40 touchdowns while rushing for 1,809 yards and 21 touchdowns as a starter for the Crimson Tide. Despite losing his starting position to Tua Tagovailoa, Hurts stayed with the Tide and was subbed into the 2018 SEC Championship. He completed Alabama's fourth quarter comeback and defeated Georgia in the second straight post-season game.

David Palmer - "The Deuce" came to Tuscaloosa as a freshman in 1991 and had an immediate impact as a receiver and return man. He amassed 1,128 all-purpose yards and scored seven times as a true freshman. Palmer's athleticism was evident each time he was on the field for the Tide and a part of the 1992 National Championship team.

Palmer was a consensus All-American, a Paul Warfield award winner and a Heisman Trophy finalist in 1993. He was the first Alabama player to tally 1,000 yards receiving in a single season. Palmer contributed at quarterback, running back and receiver on the offensive end. He ended up having a seven-year NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Derrick Henry -  "El Tractorcito" What can you say about a player who carried the Crimson Tide to the 2015 CFP National Championship?

He came to the Crimson Tide as a 5-star recruit out of Yulee High School in Florida, He rushed for an amazing 12,124 yards as a high schooler. Henry waited his turn behind T.J. Yeldon before taking over in 2015. Henry was the Crimson Tide's second player to ever win the Heisman Trophy after rushing for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2015. Henry, almost single-handedly, defeated the Auburn Tigers on The Plains by rushing 46 times for 271 yards.

Henry was a unanimous All-American, the SEC Offensive Player of the Year, the Doak Walker and the Maxwell Award as well in 2015. He has now in his fifth year in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans and led the NFL in rushing yards in 2019.

Other notable players to wear the #2 jersey for the Tide lately are DeAndrew White, Tony Brown and even Rueben Foster for his freshman season.
