Toronto- and Nashville-based Americana artist Jadea Kelly is premiering the music video for her song “Can’t Outrun” exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play above to watch.

Kelly's “Can’t Outrun” video was filmed in the singer-songwriter's East Nashville neighborhood, near a skate shop called Asphalt Beach: "It's a pretty cool and local shop, so we bought some retro black roller skates from them to shoot our music video,” Kelly tells The Boot.

“This song speaks of infidelity and my personal entrapment in a hidden two-year affair," the artist explains. "No matter how fast or hard you run (or skate) away -- whether to a new city or a new relationship -- you can't run from yourself or your mistakes.”

According to Kelly, "Can't Outrun" was born as she sorted out her feelings after ending a tumultuous relationship. The lines “You can't shake me, running from misery to misery" and "If I'm water, why'd I drift so slow / To flow through you in the ache we wrote?" specifically touch on Kelly's "embarrassment, that I could be so oblivious for so long.”

"I found solace, freedom and peace in East Nashville last year. Watching the music video now brings me great ease," she adds. "I felt pretty heartbroken when we made it, but when I watch it now, all I see is freedom and strength.”

An Ontario, Canada, native, Kelly recently received a Canadian Folk Music Awards trophy for Contemporary Singer of the Year. “Can’t Outrun” appears on her recently released album, titled Love & Lust; more information on Kelly and her new record is available on her official website.
