Man Critical After Woman Shoots Him in Tuscaloosa, Possibly in Self-Defense
A man is in critical condition after he was shot several times Sunday night in Tuscaloosa by a woman who told police it was in self-defense.
Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the Tuscaloosa Police Department sent officers to the 600 block of 38th Street at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday on reports of a shooting.
They found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and said he was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Kennedy said the alleged shooter, a woman, stayed on the scene and told police she shot him in self-defense after a years-long history of domestic violence in a relationship with the man.
"Last night, the female retreated to an inoperable vehicle to get away from the male during an argument. While locked in the vehicle, she called 911 and reported that the male was beating on the windows of the vehicle attempting to break them to get to her," Kennedy told local media. "When police arrived on scene, the male has been shot several times. The female stated she shot in self-defense."
Kennedy said the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the case and no arrests have been made at this time.
Neither the victim nor the shooter in this case will be identified unless criminal charges are filed, which Kennedy said would be decided by a grand jury.
